The main signs of hair loss in men:

1. Receding hairline

2. Moderate to extensive hair loss, especially at the top of his head.

Other treatments for hair loss are the wigs, hair transplants (taking hair from the sides and back of the head) and plastic surgery such as reduction of the scalp, the bald area is removed and the hair is pulled forward.

Alopecia Areata
There is no completely effective treatment for alopecia areata.
However, in about eight out of 10 cases, the hair grows back after a year without treatment.

Androgenetic Alopecia

Besides the genetic origin and the presence of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) other factors can cause hair loss in women: female hair loss can be caused by persistent traction with ponytails or buns, and the start or end of making contraceptives oral.

Alopecia usually begins in women between thirty and forty. It is quite possible to start at times of hormonal changes. In general, women tend to have lower density diffuse hair across the top of the scalp and it clears from the front to the crown producing female alopecia.

Alopecia Areata
This disorder is characterized by sudden loss of hair in one particular area, the hair grows back after several months. However, if you lose your whole body hair suddenly, you may not grow back. The cause of this type of hair loss is unknown.

Toxic Alopecia
Toxic alopecia may occur following a high fever or serious illness. Certain medications, especially thallium, high doses of vitamin A and retinoids, may cause toxic alopecia. Medical conditions such as thyroid disease, or after birth may also trigger toxic alopecia. This condition is characterized by temporary hair loss. Also, some medications indicated for cancer can cause hair loss.

Scarring alopecia
May be that in areas where there was a healing process not grow hair. Scarring may occur from burns, wounds, or X-ray therapy Other diseases such as lupus, skin infections, bacterial or fungal, lichen planus, sarcoidosis, tuberculosis or skin cancer also cause other types of scarring that can cause hair loss.

Trichotillomania (hair pulling)
The hair pulling habit, common among children, can cause baldness.

Some of these therapies are recommended by dermatologists for more experimental or alternative practitioners.
Usually very little is known of the alternative treatments in relation to their effects on hair loss, mainly due to alopecia areata. Many of these alternative treatments do not appear in the literature, but a wide range of treatments of this type are beginning to use with alopecia areata.

The success rate, if any, is unknown for not scientific studies aimed at evaluating their effectiveness.

Here is a list of alternative treatments that are usually used in alopecia areata, not all with much success or security. As always, consult your doctor before starting any treatment, “alternative” or not!

1) Reduction of stress. There is much anecdotal evidence on the use of sedatives in alopecia areata, hair and massage the influence of monetary and psychological safety, hypnotherapy and acupuncture.

2) Aloe Vera. Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, aloe vera cream has been used by people with alopecia areata with the intention to reduce or reverse inflammation of the follicle. A quick survey of medical studies on aloe vera, suggesting that this plant contains chemical complex with the capacity to stimulate the immune system in several ways.

There are reports suggesting that aloe vera can have positive effects on wound healing, immune stimulation and anti-cancer and viral infections. There is also a recent report on its effects in the treatment of psoriasis. Although we do not know yet how it works, is known to induce nitric oxide production, which probably has a stimulating effect of hair growth in androgenetic alopecia.

3) Poison Ivy. This substance has been used by some people. It’s a very irritating chemical contact, and comments of those who used suggest that the result is not good.
